Web Check-in for Domestic Flights: Timings for IndiGo, Air India, Akasa, SpiceJet

Looking up the web check in time for a domestic flight in India usually means one thing: you do not want to miss the online window and end up in a long airport queue. IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air and SpiceJet each publish their own check-in windows. We read those official pages on 7 Nov 2026 and put the timings side by side below — no invented cut-offs, no third-party blog numbers.

Short version: open the airline website or app about two days before departure (or anytime after booking on SpiceJet domestic), complete web check-in, save the boarding pass, and still arrive early enough to drop bags before the counter closes. Still choosing dates? Use our flight search and see the best time to book domestic flights in India.

Quick answer

Most big Indian carriers open domestic web check-in 48 hours before departure and close it about 60 minutes before take-off. That is what IndiGo, Air India and Akasa say on their own pages. SpiceJet is different: its baggage FAQ says domestic web check-in is available from the time you book until 60 minutes before departure. Airport check-in counters typically close 60 minutes before departure too, and boarding gates often close 20–25 minutes before — so finish web check-in early and still reach the airport with buffer. Always re-check the airline app or website on travel day; rules can change by route.

Domestic web check-in windows at a glance

These numbers come from each airline’s own web check-in or FAQ page (sources at the bottom). International windows often differ — this table is for domestic flights inside India.

IndiGo’s Stretch terms also state boarding closes 25 minutes before departure. Air India’s domestic airport page says boarding gates close 20 minutes before scheduled departure. Treat those as hard cut-offs.

IndiGo web check-in time (domestic)

IndiGo’s web check-in page is clear: web check-in is available from 48 hours to 60 minutes before domestic flight departures, and from 24 hours to 75 minutes before international departures. Airport check-in at the counters is available up to 60 minutes before domestic departures (75 minutes for international). You can also add check-in baggage and generate baggage tags in that same window. “Smart check-in” on the same page lets you check in on web or app and get the boarding pass on WhatsApp, email or phone up to 60 minutes before a domestic departure.

Is IndiGo web check-in mandatory?

On its domestic flights FAQ, IndiGo says that as per government directives to minimise contact at the airport, it is mandatory for all passengers to web check-in, and that you can do so 48 hours to 60 minutes before domestic flight time. Airport counters still exist for bag drop and exceptions, but do not plan to skip online check-in.

Boarding and steps

IndiGoStretch terms list boarding closed 25 minutes before departure (and counter close at 60 minutes). To check in: open goindigo.in web check-in or the app, enter PNR and last name, select seats/bags if offered, and save the boarding pass. At the airport, use bag drop for check-in luggage; cabin-bag-only travellers usually go toward security with ID and the pass.

Air India web check-in time (domestic)

Air India’s check-in FAQ says online check-in is available within 48 hours up to 60 minutes before scheduled departure. The “time window” answer also says you can use it up to two hours before international flights and an hour for domestic trips. Check in on the website, the app, or AI.g (website, app or WhatsApp) for domestic travel. Up to nine passengers at a time; infants on the same booking check in with the adult. Seat selection is subject to inventory; some seats may cost extra.

Who must use the airport counter?

Air India says passengers with special needs, those requiring special assistance, and unaccompanied minors need to check in at the airport counter so documents and requirements can be handled properly.

At the airport

Air India’s domestic check-in page: counters close 60 minutes before departure and boarding gates close 20 minutes before scheduled departure. After online check-in, domestic passengers with only cabin bags can head to security; with bags, use bag-drop or the counter before closure. The FAQ recommends reaching the airport at least 3 hours before departure — use that as a busy-day buffer. Steps: open check-in on the website/app (or AI.g), enter booking reference and last name, confirm details, save the digital boarding pass. If you only get a confirmation slip (more common on international or mixed itineraries), take it to the counter for a boarding pass after document checks.

Akasa Air web check-in time

Akasa Air’s web check-in page states the service is available from 48 hours up to 1 hour prior to departure for both domestic and international flights. You need the PNR / booking reference and last name exactly as on the e-ticket. During check-in you can select a seat (subject to availability) and add optional services. After you finish, Akasa says you receive an e-boarding pass that is a valid boarding document — digital or printed. For international flights, e-boarding passes are not emailed; guests must report to the airport counter for document verification and a physical boarding pass.

When web check-in is not available

Akasa lists three groups that cannot use web check-in: unaccompanied minors, guests needing wheelchair assistance, and guests travelling with pets. Those passengers should use the airport process the airline provides. Steps for everyone else: Check-in tab on akasaair.com or the app → PNR and last name → seat/add-ons → save the e-boarding pass and carry a matching government photo ID.

SpiceJet web check-in time (domestic)

SpiceJet’s baggage FAQ says web check-in for domestic flights is available from the booking time until 60 minutes prior to departure. Airport counters open three hours prior and close 60 minutes prior for all flights. Passengers are encouraged to report at least two hours prior; late reporting can be treated as a no-show with the fare retained. The Web Check-in FAQ adds that you can check in up to nine passengers at a time, choose a seat where open, and reprint a lost boarding card from the same check-in link.

International note and fees

For international flights departing India, SpiceJet’s Web Check-in FAQ says the window is between 48 hours and 75 minutes prior (another answer on the same page mentions 48 hours to 60 minutes — confirm the live page on travel day). Document check at the airport counter is mandatory for international flights. Assistance with check-in or boarding-pass re-issuance through Reservations carries a facilitation fee of ₹200 per passenger, with exemptions for armed forces, senior citizens, unaccompanied minors and medical/stretcher cases. Prefer the website or app. Steps: spicejet.com or app → Check-in → booking details → seat/bags → save the pass → reach bag drop before the 60-minute close.

What to do on airport day

Web check-in removes the ticket-counter queue; it does not remove security, bag drop or boarding. Finish web check-in once the window is open (48 hours out for IndiGo / Air India / Akasa, or anytime after booking on SpiceJet domestic). Save the boarding pass offline plus a government photo ID that matches the ticket name. With check-in bags, use bag drop before the 60-minute counter close. Cabin-bag-only travellers on Air India domestic can head to security after online check-in; follow staff signs at your airport for other carriers. Be at the gate early — published closes we verified: IndiGo 25 minutes before departure; Air India domestic 20 minutes.

Name match

Carry the same government ID used for the booking name. For free name-correction rules shortly after booking, see the DGCA notes in our booking-time guide — that is separate from check-in, but fixing the name early avoids gate trouble.

Book the flight, then set a check-in reminder

  1. Compare dates on our flight search, or open Trip.com flights / Cleartrip flights.
  2. Once booked, set a phone reminder for 48 hours before departure (SpiceJet domestic can be earlier).
  3. Book the stay on our hotel search or MakeMyTrip hotels; add day trips from tours & activities if needed.
  4. For a short leisure plan example, see Goa trip budget for 3 days.

We do not invent fares or claim a seat will still be free at T-48h. Open the airline’s own check-in page on travel day if anything here looks out of date.
