Tata Neu Plus vs Infinity HDFC Credit Card: Which One Should You Pick?
Tata Neu Plus or Infinity? Fees, NeuCoins on Tata and other spends, UPI, lounges, eligibility and the new NeuCoin claim rule, from HDFC Bank’s own pages.

Comparing Tata Neu Plus vs Infinity, the two Tata Neu HDFC Bank credit cards? Both pay you back in NeuCoins (1 NeuCoin = ₹1 off on partner Tata brands), both earn on UPI through the RuPay version, and both come from HDFC Bank. The real differences are the fee, how many NeuCoins you get per ₹100, lounge access and who qualifies.
We read HDFC Bank’s own card pages, eligibility pages, card FAQs and the NeuCoin claim document on 1 Nov 2026 and put every number below next to the other card’s, so you can see the gap clearly. If you want to see other cards too (Swiggy HDFC, Scapia, YES BANK POP-CLUB and more), we keep a side-by-side list on our credit cards page.
Quick answer
Pick Tata Neu Infinity if you spend a lot on Tata Neu and Tata brands (BigBasket, Croma, Westside, Tata CLiQ and the rest of the partner list), your monthly salary is ₹1 lakh or more, and you can cross ₹3 lakh a year on the card so the renewal fee goes away. Pick Tata Neu Plus if most of your spends are outside Tata brands, your income is lower, or you want a ₹499 card whose fee is waived at ₹1 lakh a year. Both cards are issued by HDFC Bank, and HDFC Bank alone decides approval and limit.

Fees and fee waiver
| Tata Neu Plus | Tata Neu Infinity | |
|---|---|---|
| Joining / renewal fee | ₹499 + applicable taxes | ₹1,499 + applicable taxes |
| Renewal fee waived if you spend | ₹1,00,000 or more in a year before renewal | ₹3,00,000 or more in a year before renewal |
| Welcome benefit | 499 NeuCoins on your first transaction within 30 days of card issue | 1,499 NeuCoins on your first transaction within 30 days of card issue |
| Forex mark-up | Not stated on the card page or FAQ we read | 2% on transactions outside India (card FAQ) |
| Interest (card FAQ) | 3.75% per month | 3.75% per month |
HDFC Bank says the joining fee, if applicable, is charged on the 120th day after the card is issued, and the renewal fee at the start of every card anniversary year. The welcome NeuCoins are given “as reversal of 1st Year Membership Fees”, so on paper the first-year fee comes back as NeuCoins of the same amount. The page doesn’t say the taxes come back too. The NeuCoins have to be claimed in the Tata Neu app within 60 days of that first transaction, and they are valid for 365 days from the claim date.
One catch: the welcome benefit is not given on lifetime-free or first-year-free cards. So if someone offers you a “free” Tata Neu card, don’t expect the welcome NeuCoins on top.
NeuCoins on every kind of spend
| Spend type | Tata Neu Plus | Tata Neu Infinity |
|---|---|---|
| Tata Neu and partner Tata brands (non-EMI) | 2% back | 5% back |
| Extra on selected Tata Neu app/website categories (NeuPass) | Additional 5% | Additional 5% |
| Non-Tata brand spends | 1% back | 1.5% back |
| Merchant EMI (any brand) | 1% back | 1.5% back |
| UPI (RuPay card) | Up to 1%: 0.25% on any UPI ID + 0.75% more with Tata Neu UPI ID | Up to 1.5%: 0.50% on any UPI ID + 1% more with Tata Neu UPI ID |
| UPI NeuCoin cap | 500 a month | 500 a month |
| Grocery NeuCoin cap | 1,000 a month | 2,000 a month |
The extra 5% through NeuPass works only on selected categories inside the Tata Neu app or website, and since 15 Jan 2025 only when you shop from the primary cardholder’s Tata Neu account (the mobile number on the card application). HDFC Bank lists Bill Payment (Tata Pay), Tanishq, Cult.fit, Air India and Tata Play as not eligible for this extra 5%.
For UPI, the base part (0.25% on Plus, 0.50% on Infinity) works with any UPI ID, including Google Pay, PhonePe or CRED. The bigger extra part comes only when you pay through the Tata Neu UPI ID. Total UPI NeuCoins stop at 500 a month on both.
Simple maths: when does Infinity beat Plus?
Here is plain arithmetic using only HDFC Bank’s stated rates. It ignores caps, the fair usage policy, taxes on the fee and the extra NeuPass 5%, so treat it as a rough guide, not a promise of savings.
- ₹1,00,000 a year on Tata partner brands: Plus gives 2,000 NeuCoins, Infinity gives 5,000. That’s 3,000 more on Infinity against a fee that is ₹1,000 higher (plus taxes). Infinity wins here.
- ₹1,00,000 a year on non-Tata spends: Plus gives 1,000 NeuCoins, Infinity gives 1,500. Only 500 more, which doesn’t cover the ₹1,000 fee gap. Plus wins here.
- Break-even on non-Tata spends: Infinity’s extra 0.5% covers the ₹1,000 fee gap only at about ₹2,00,000 of non-Tata spends a year.
- ₹3,00,000+ a year on the card: both renewal fees are waived (Plus already at ₹1 lakh), so Infinity earns more on every type of spend and costs nothing extra from the second year.
Rule of thumb: Infinity pays off if a good part of your spending goes to Tata brands, or your card spend is big enough to get the ₹1,499 fee waived. For a light user spending mostly outside the Tata group, Plus is cheaper and simpler.
Lounge access, insurance and travel
| Tata Neu Plus | Tata Neu Infinity | |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic lounge | 1 voucher per calendar quarter (up to 4 a year) after ₹50,000 spends in that quarter | 2 vouchers per calendar quarter (up to 8 a year) after ₹50,000 spends in that quarter |
| International lounge | Not listed | 4 visits a year (1 per quarter), outside India |
| Insurance | Not listed | Accidental air death cover ₹1 crore, emergency overseas hospitalisation up to ₹15 lakh, lost card liability up to ₹9 lakh |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on ₹400–₹5,000 transactions, max ₹250 per statement cycle | 1% on ₹400–₹5,000 transactions, max ₹500 per statement cycle |
Domestic lounge access on both cards is now milestone based (since 10 Jun 2025). After you cross ₹50,000 in a calendar quarter, you get an SMS and email, then claim the voucher on HDFC Bank’s claim portal within 120 days and use it within 180 days of issue. Spends on an old card don’t count after an upgrade or reissue.
On Infinity’s Visa version, the Priority Pass for international lounges is issued only on request (since 1 Jun 2025) through HDFC Bank phone banking. Visits beyond the 4 free ones, and all guest visits, cost US$27 + GST each. On the RuPay version, a $3.25 transaction fee is charged for the free international lounge visit and later reversed.

NeuCoins: value, claiming and expiry (new rule from 25 Nov 2026)
HDFC Bank’s claim document (updated 21 Oct 2026) says 1 Tata NeuCoin = ₹1 savings on eligible partner Tata brands. The big change: from 25 Nov 2026, NeuCoins earned on the card will no longer be credited to your Tata Neu account automatically. The primary cardholder has to claim them in the Tata Neu app (NeuCard section → Claim NeuCoins).
- Coins become claimable within 7 working days of your statement date.
- You can claim coins from a statement for 12 months; unclaimed coins then expire.
- Once claimed, they stay valid for another 12 months in your Tata Neu account.
- Each claim must be at least 100 NeuCoins, and you can make up to 3 successful claims a day.
This applies to both Plus and Infinity. If you pick either card, set a monthly reminder after your statement to claim, otherwise the coins can quietly expire.
What doesn’t earn NeuCoins
On both cards, HDFC Bank lists no NeuCoins for fuel, wallet loads (and gift/prepaid card loads or vouchers), rent, government transactions and online gaming, including online skill-based gaming (MCC 5816) since 1 Jul 2025. Education fees paid through third-party apps like CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik don’t earn either, while fees paid directly on the school or college website or POS do.
Monthly caps also apply on both: utility 2,000 NeuCoins, telecom & cable 2,000 and insurance 2,000. Grocery is capped at 1,000 a month on Plus and 2,000 on Infinity. Partner-brand NeuCoins are also covered by a fair usage policy.
Eligibility: who can apply
| Tata Neu Plus | Tata Neu Infinity | |
|---|---|---|
| Salaried | Indian, age 21–60, monthly income ₹25,000 | Indian, age 21–60, gross monthly income above ₹1 lakh |
| Self-employed | Indian, age 21–65, annual ITR above ₹6 lakh | Indian, age 21–65, annual ITR above ₹12 lakh |
This is the biggest practical gap. Infinity needs four times the salary of Plus. HDFC Bank’s eligibility page also says approvals are at the bank’s sole discretion and subject to documentation and verification. Meeting the criteria doesn’t mean you’ll be approved, and the bank sets your credit limit.
Which one should you pick?
- You order groceries on BigBasket, buy electronics at Croma or shop on Tata CLiQ often, and earn ₹1 lakh+ a month: Infinity. The 5% vs 2% gap on Tata brands is the whole point of this card.
- You want a first credit card or your salary is between ₹25,000 and ₹1 lakh: Plus is the only one of the two you qualify for.
- Most of your spends are rent, fuel or outside Tata brands: neither card shines on those. Rent and fuel earn nothing, and 1–1.5% on other spends is ordinary. Have a look at other cards on our credit cards page.
- You pay a lot by UPI: both earn on UPI only with the RuPay version, and both stop at 500 NeuCoins a month. Infinity reaches that cap faster.
- You travel abroad: Infinity has international lounge visits and travel insurance; Plus has neither listed.
Switching later? HDFC Bank’s FAQ says extra NeuCoins on unbilled transactions on the old card are not posted after a variant change.
How to apply
HDFC Bank’s page lists a short online process: give and verify your phone number and date of birth or PAN, confirm your details, select the card, then submit. In some cases the bank may ask you to upload documents or do a video KYC. Use the Apply Now buttons above, and re-read the fees and terms on that page before you submit.
